Naija Speech

SPEECH BY.......ON THE OCCASION OF THE COMMISSIONING OF THE REHABILITATED ST ANDREWS ANGLICAN PRIMARY SCHOOL, ST GEORGE'S PRIMARY SCHOOL, AND NEW CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL, ALL IN OWO, ON SATURDAY, JULY 1, 2017

Your Excellency, the Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), Royal Fathers here present, distinguished guests, all protocols observed, it is with great joy and honour that I stand before you on this occasion of the commissioning of the rehabilitated schools that are dear to my heart.

It is a very momentous occasion I will cherish for a long time. I have a very strong attachment to St Andrews Anglican Primary School, Owo, where I was a Sunday school pupil some decades ago. I have veery nostalgic feelings about that period. I have the same level of attachment to St George's Primary School for obvious reasons and this made me to feel the need to give them a befitting facelift when they became delapidated.

It is also a thing of joy for me to have contributed in my own little way to restoring the glory of New Church Grammar School, Owo, by rehabilitating it. Coincidentally, it marks its 55th anniversary today. This epochal event is worth celebrating and worth thanking God for.

I embarked on these projects out of my burning desire to give back to the society in appreciation for moulding me to become who I am today. If not for these schools, I wonder where some of would have been today.

I am using this opportunity to thank the founding fathers for the foresight they had that led to the establishment of the schools. I give God all the glory for empowering me to contribute my little quota to the development of my community. I call on other well-to-do Owo indigenes to also give back to the society.

At this juncture, I want to appeal to his Excellency, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to turn New Church Grammar School, Owo, into a comprehensive secondary school where students could undergo vocational training to acquire skills to become self employed.

In the past there was a fish pond in New Church Grammar School but that no longer exists. There is urgent need for the pond to be revived and other facilities put in place for skill acquisition.

When the school begins vocational training, students would be adequately prepared to face the challenges of life by being self-employed upon graduation, rather than be thrown into the saturated labour where competition for white collar jobs is very fierce where they exist.

Finally, I thank your Excellency, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and other esteemed guests for gracing this occasion. May the Almighty God continue to bless Ondo State and lead it to the eldorado of our dreams. Thank you.
